In Memory of my late Brother Nathan, I volunteered to photograph the AIDS walk

For a number of years I wondered how to preserve the memory of my brother Nathan who died at age 36 from complications due to AIDS. Though his story is not unique, my memory of him as an incredibly intelligent, perceptive, though to his own determent, though not of himself, and often raucous sense of humor is sorely missed.  He stirred the pot and no one was left unscathed by his humor and his sensitivity.  Two years ago, ARCS asked if I might be available to photograph their AIDS walk and I accepted as a no-brainer.  Now in my second year and in cold weather, I feel as committed as ever.

Insuring great formal photos of an Active Bride and Groom

At a recent wedding the bride and groom that really wanted to be part of their cocktail hour and not spend  much time taking formal photos.  Normally suggesting taking formal photos ahead of time works as an alternative. In this case though, the bride and groom did not want to see each other beforehand.  Where they were married was beautiful but hard to find an isolated location without taking them too far away from the action.  Luckily the wedding outside was wonderful, but more could have been done.

My assistant and I worked quickly where they were married under the trellis and were able to take some wonderful photos of them as they lined up for the receiving line.

Even with the time and space limitations for formal photos, keeping an eye out for spontaneous moments allowed for some stunning wedding photos to be taken and that is what I live for.... I often look for a back drop that adds in interesting light while the Bride and Groom are less aware of me "the photographer."  The results speak for themselves.
